Online Professional Licensing

The Department of Consumer Affairs and the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology are happy to announce on-line professional licensing services are now available.

This service allows an individual to apply for an examination, renew a current license, change an address and/or request a duplicate license and pay by credit card. Pre-application or other barbering and cosmetology services are not available on-line at this time. Certain criteria must be met in order to process your transaction on-line.

Initial Examination Applications

To apply for an examination on-line the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • You were trained in an approved California School
  • You have Out-of-State/Country training and or experience
  • You have no outstanding fines with the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology
  • Have submitted a valid, completed proof of training document (proof of training must be submitted to the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology at P.O. Box 944226 Sacramento, CA 94244-2260 Attn: Online Transaction)

Renewals

Licensee's who wish to renew their licenses on-line must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a valid license that expires within the next three months, or
    Have a license which is delinquent by no more than 2 years.
  • Have no outstanding fines with the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.

Change of Address/Duplicates

Applicants and licensee's who wish to change their address on-line and licensee's who wish to request a duplicate license on-line must meet the following criteria:

  • Have no outstanding fines or pending disciplinary actions

A $1.00 convenience fee will be added to all credit card transactions processed on-line.
