Outdoor Service Guidance for Establishments - July 20, 2020

Effective July 13, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom ordered that specific businesses on the county monitoring list must close immediately in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This applies to all hair salons, barber shops and personal care services (which includes nail salons, esthetic salons, and electrology offices) that are within the monitored counties (a list of impacted counties can be found here at: https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap-counties/).

On July 20, 2020 the California Department of Public Health issued guidelines (https://covid19.ca.gov/industry-guidance/#top) for how barbering and cosmetology services can be offered safely outside. These guidelines allow the OPTION for services to be done outside and does not require outdoor services.

The Department of Consumer Affairs and the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology have also issued information regarding outside services (https://www.barbercosmo.ca.gov/licensees/salon_reopen.shtml). The Board has also provided a checklist for operating outside (https://www.barbercosmo.ca.gov/forms_pubs/outside_checklist.pdf). Please review all of this information prior to starting any outdoor services.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
